Las Vegas man dies in I-40 rollover

NIPTON • A Las Vegas man died Saturday night when a car he was driving hit the back of a semi truck 23 miles west of the Nevada state line.

Jeffrey Ludlow, 51, was traveling north on Interstate Highway 15 two miles north of Nipton Road at 10 p.m. when his Toyota Prius struck the back of a tractor-trailer truck for unknown reasons.

According to California Highway Patrol reports, the Prius struck the rear of the truck with great force, pushing the front of the car back into the cabin and inflicting multiple injuries to the driver. The front of the Prius also became engulfed in flames, which burned most of the engine compartment.

Emergency personnel pronounced Ludlow dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. The CHP is investigating the accident.
