Cowan upsets Hamilton on Hesperia R&P board

HESPERIA • There was an early morning upset in the race for two seats on the Hesperia Recreation and Park District Board, as updated results Wednesday showed Andy Cowan garnering 98 more votes than incumbent Jack Hamilton.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, incumbent Bob Chandler held a slim 7-vote lead over Cowan, according to unofficial results from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

“It’s matter of a few votes that separates all three of us in the election,” Chandler said. “This is one of the closest races that I’ve ever seen. We’ll have to wait for the final numbers.”

Here’s how the candidates stacked up, with some provisional ballots potentially outstanding:

• Bob Chandler, incumbent — 33.50 percent

• Andrew Cowan — 33.47 percent

• Jack Hamilton, incumbent — 33.03 percent

Visit for election results, with the next update from the county Registrar due at 5 p.m. Thursday.
