BARSTOW • The California Highway Patrol will conduct a “Start Smart” class at the CHP office in Barstow Saturday.

The program is aimed at helping teenage drivers understand the responsibilities that come with getting behind the wheel.

The class will include a review of the rules of the road and video clips and movies to inform teen drivers. The class will also remind parents about the restrictions placed on their children who drive.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 15 and 20 is motor vehicle collisions.

Drivers who just received their licenses are also five times more likely to be involved in a car accident, according to the CHP.

Class begins at 4 p.m. and is free to the public. Parents are encouraged to attend. The CHP office is located at 300 E. Mountain View.

For more information, contact CHP Officer Adam Croxton at (760) 255-8706.
