Grenade found outside office building

Investigators looking for leads in possible hoax

VICTORVILLE • Officials found a dummy hand grenade near the Victorville FBI office on Park Avenue early Tuesday morning.


An FBI employee spotted the grenade outside the Cimarron Escrow office building in the 13800 block of Park Avenue just before 7 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victorville station officials.


The employee noticed the pin was still in the device which was sitting in a grassy area just outside a door on the east side of the building, authorities stated.

Detective Steve Szydloski of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Arson and Bomb Detail along with FBI investigators set up a perimeter and quickly learned the grenade had been drilled out and was not a threat.

FBI officials are investigating the incident.
