School board to hold special meeting Wednesday

STAFF WRITER

The Hesperia Unified School District school board will meet Wednesday to vote on a single item.

At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, the board will vote on the approval of off-campus activities for several schools and clubs.

The item had been on the consent agenda (a normally non-controversial list of items that can be approved with a single vote by the board) at Monday's aborted school board meeting. With a member missing, the board deadlocked 2-2 over the agenda for that meeting, and thus no meeting was possible under the board's rules.

But the off-campus events are still scheduled and still require board approval, so on Wednesday, the board will meet to try again, on just a single issue.

"The board must authorize off-campus activity requests that have been submitted by our school sites, so that students may attend field trips that have already been organized and scheduled," Superintendent Mark McKinney is quoted as saying in a release issued Tuesday afternoon. "Since the board failed to approve the agenda for Monday night's meeting, the meeting was adjourned, with no action being taken on any agenda items."

The next regular meeting of the HUSD school board will be held on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in the HUSD Educational Support Center Annex, 15576 Main Street.

Before then, the board will hold a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, beginning at 4 p.m., to discuss the framework for contract negotiations.
