111-year-old Barstow church to commemorate closure

BARSTOW• After 111 years of service, the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Barstow will close its doors on Second Avenue.

To commemorate their service of more than one century, the church will host a celebration Saturday. Worship begins at 1 p.m. at 220 N. Second Ave., with a reception to follow at their new location on 400 Avenue H — the former First Christian Church and 4Runner Church building.

Founded in 1901, the First Congregational UCC Church was the first organized church in Barstow and became a part of the Congregational denomination in the 1920s.
