Barstow Del Taco robbery suspects reach plea

Three men sentenced in 2011 burglary

BARSTOW • Three men charged with burglarizing the First Street Del Taco at gunpoint in 2011 entered a plea bargain during their pre-trial, court records showed Friday.

Aaron Thomas, 30, pleaded no contest to robbery and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Jayce Gourie, 26, pleaded no contest to robbery and four counts of assault with a semiautomatic rifle and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Clyde Thomas, 23, pleaded no contest to robbery and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Each received 838 days credited for time served and good behavior and were immediately remanded to be delivered to the California Department of Corrections at Chino, according to court records.

In March 2011, police were called to a report of a robbery at Del Taco on 401 N. First St. around 11:31 p.m. Once on scene, employees told officers two men robbed the fast-food restaurant at gunpoint and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Arriving officers noticed a car with three men matching the description of the alleged robbers fleeing the area at high speed. After the vehicle failed to pull over, and a brief chase, the car stopped near the intersection of Fredericks Street and Collins Court.

Gourie, the backseat passenger, was caught at the scene, while the other two men fled. Officers chased Aaron Thomas, the front passenger, to the 300 block of Collins Court, where he was apprehended and a previously stolen loaded handgun was recovered. After searching Thomas and the vehicle, police recovered money believed to be connected to the robbery.

Police later arrested the driver, Clyde Thomas, at his home.
