One of the largest church congregations in the Victor Valley, Holy Family Catholic Church, will be hosting its annual barbecue on Sept. 25, thanks to its dedicated group of ushers.

As always, guests will feast on ribs, chicken, salad, dessert and more.

“There’s no worry about getting hungry,” said Sam Dearman who recently had to step down from his usher duties because of health concerns.

The annual event, which is open to the public, is presented by the ushers. Altogether, there are about 40 who serve in groups of seven per mass. And a number of them are youth members, according to head usher James Janrhett.

“The ushers are very important to the church,” he said.

Proceeds from the barbecue go to church programs.

“It goes where it’s needed Janrhett said. “Anywhere we can help someone.”

But the event transcends its fund raising function. Importantly, it’s something everyone can enjoy, according to Janrhett.

“That’s what this barbecue is about — to bring everybody together.”
