ATV driver killed in Dumont Dunes collision

BAKER • A Riverside man was killed Friday evening after his ATV collided with a sand rail at Dumont Dunes in rural Baker, officials reported.

Nicholas Blanchette, 24, was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m. Friday after being thrown from his ATV when it collided with the other vehicle, according to a report by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Department.

Blanchette was riding the ATV on “Competition Hill” traveling at about 40 mph when his vehicle struck the sand rail broadside, the report stated. He was taken to the Dumont Dunes first-aid station, where officials pronounced him dead.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.
