Authorities subdue ax-wielding man

LUCERNE VALLEY • Authorities subdued an ax-wielding man who threatened to kill himself and his family Monday morning, according to initial reports.

John Gentry, 21, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon when he tried to throw a pot of hot grease on his father, chased him with an ax and threw a knife at him, said Stella Hodson, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victor Valley station.

Several sheriff’s officials went out to the property in the 11000 block of Santa Fe Road, including a sheriff’s helicopter.

A call came in early in the morning reporting the 21-year-old had refused to take his medication and had become aggressive toward his parents.
