Car found in aqueduct
PINON HILLS • Authorities pulled a white Nissan Versa out of the aqueduct near Oasis Road and Highway 18 Monday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP unit responded to the aqueduct at 12:38 p.m. and found a damaged fence. Tire tracks showed that the car had broken through the gate to the aqueduct and went into the water, CHP spokesman Matt Hunt said.
Officers couldn’t see any vehicle in the water so a dive team was called out. After about 30 minutes of searching, they found the submerged Nissan Versa about 100 yards east of the gate. No one was in or around the vehicle, Hunt said.
The car had no license plates, Hunt said, though a plate with a dealership name was left on the ground near the broken gate.
The car was towed out of the water before 4 p.m.
The CHP Antelope Valley station is investigating the case, Hunt said.
