Adelanto man pleads not guilty to assault
Wimberly allegedly stabbed mentally disabled neighbor
ADELANTO • An Adelanto man accused of assaulting a mentally disabled man pleaded not guilty Monday at the Victorville Courthouse, according to court records.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Keith Wimberly, 35, on suspicion of attacking his cousin’s mentally disabled neighbor, sheriff’s spokeswoman Pamela Hoffman said.
The victim had stepped out of his apartment in the 18800 block of Del Mano Court to smoke a cigarette on Friday night when he was stabbed by Wimberly, Hoffman said.
Deputies received a call at about 10:20 p.m. — nearly three hours after the stabbing occurred, according to authorities. Deputy Chris Mejia arrived on scene within two minutes of the call and found the victim to be suffering from a stab wound to the chest, according to Hoffman.
The victim was evaluated by medical personnel and flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Wimberly was arrested and booked at the Victor Valley Jail on Friday. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to court records.
