Adelanto School Board selects new member
ADELANTO • The Adelanto School District Board of Trustees has selected Lisa Marie Garcia to fill a seat on the dais that was left vacant after Jermaine Wright Sr. resigned in December.
According to Garcia, the all-female four-member board voted unanimously in her favor after interviews held on Wednesday. Although Garcia ran in the November election she only garnered 20.54 percent of the vote, coming in third place for the short-term seat.
Garcia previously served on the ASD board from 2008-2010, including stints as president and clerk, according to ASD’s website.
“Mrs. Garcia comes to the district as an experienced board member ... and she is looking forward to hitting the ground running with the first major task of hiring a new Superintendent,” the ASD website states.
Garcia said that she is humbled and honored to know that the board had confidence in her, especially because she knew that she was in a pool of candidates who all cared deeply about the school district.
“I look forward to working with this board, and I’m so excited about who I’m working with,” Garcia said. “I think we have a board that’s strong. I think that we know where we’re going.”
Garcia holds degrees in public administration and urban planning from USC and is currently a stay-at-home-mother to four of her five children, two of whom attend school within the district. Garcia believes that staying home will allow her to devote her time an attention to both her family and the school board.
