Teen girl struck and killed

HESPERIA • A 15-year-old girl was struck and killed while walking along Cottonwood Avenue near Mauna Loa Street with two other juveniles, officials said Wednesday.

Angelina Bandino of Hesperia was walking along the northbound shoulder of Cottonwood Avenue with two friends around 7:11 p.m. Tuesday when a pickup truck drifted onto the shoulder, hitting the teens from behind, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials said. The driver stopped immediately after the crash.

Bandino was pronounced dead at the scene. Another girl was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and a teen boy was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Initial findings show the teens were all walking within the designated areas.

No arrests were made as of Wednesday morning.

The Hesperia station’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the incident. If anyone witnessed the crash, they are asked to call the Hesperia station at (760) 947-1500.
