Christmas Eve Fire takes man's life

Fire burns in healthcare center apartment

HESPERIA • An 80-year-old man died in an apartment fire at Foremost Healthcare in Hesperia on Monday evening, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like explosions at approximately 9:58 p.m. and attempted to contact the resident. Twenty firefighters battled the blaze and found the man dead during a search of the apartment.

The Sheriff-Coroner division reported the body was burned beyond recognition, and the identity of the victim has not been determined. The Sheriff’s Department’s bomb and arson division is investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes and did approximately $100,000 in damage to the apartment and its contents.
